How to Improve Learning using Feynman Technique in AI

Learning quickly and deeply can be challenging. Many people face this challenge, same for me. You put in the time, but you don’t learn much.

For me, I watched movies and read books or articles, nothing stuck. But explaining it to someone else, will show my gaps, you will find yourself not understand at all even a simple concept. It was not a matter of time, but rather of depth.

What is Feynman Technique?

Feynman Technique, It famous, which invented by Richard Feynman, he was a physicist. He made difficult concepts simple. Feynman Technique broke down concepts into easy-to-understand bits. If you can’t explain something simply, Feynman said, you don’t understand it. This Technique was one of his numerous uses.

How to Apply Feynman Technique?

Here are the steps which I learnt:

  1. Select a topic: Choose something to learn. For example: I want to learn Neural networks (It sounds difficult right?).
  2. Describe To put it simply: Write down what you know. Give a brief explanation of it to another person. Feynman said, you need to let a 3 years child or 80 years grandma understand what you are talking.
  3. Find the Gaps: to know what you don’t know while you explain. in my Neural networks case: Backpropagation was difficult for me to understand.
  4. Fill in the Gaps: Find out what you were missing. Continue to simplify your explanation.
  5. Repeat: Do it again and again until you understand it.

How to Apply the Feynman Technique with AI

AI can improve your learning through this approach.

Step 1: Ask AI Explains

Ask AI to explain simply. Prompt:”Explain backpropagation to a complete beginner with no prior knowledge,” for example.

Step 2: Test Your Explanation

Describe the idea back to AI in your way, and then ask AI: “Is this correct?”. AI will help you in identifying errors. Example prompt: Find out potential gaps or unclear points in my explanation.

Step 3: Improve and Retake

Keep refining your explanation. Continue till it is understood.
